Black History Month (BHM) is celebrated in the United States and Canada throughout February.  It is a recognized Diversity observance across RELX.

At LexisNexis Canada, we recognize the systematic racism rooted in Canadian history that reinforces beliefs, attitudes, prejudice, stereotyping, and/or discrimination towards people of Black descent.

Health and wellness are often used interchangeably, but they mean two different things. The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity while wellness focuses on improving your health in order to make your life better and longer. Over the years, black people have faced many health disparities when compared to other races, especially when it comes to conditions like heart disease and diabetes which are more common in black communities than in others.

Social issues such as anti-Black racism, sexism, poor education, employment rates, inadequate housing, and poverty are major contributing factors to mental health and addictions. This can impact quality of life, lifespan, personal relationships, and chronic disease risk which can affect the person’s level of self-esteem and self-worth.

Eliminating Anti-Black Racism requires support from all levels of government, institutions, businesses, schools, healthcare, social service and community agencies and individuals.

Understanding and Promoting Black Health & Wellness ensures that all Canadians have an equitable opportunity to thrive and contribute to the development of Canada. Join us as we work together to accomplish this goal.
